LSU football missed an opportunity to boost its standing in the 2027 recruiting cycle. Easton Royal, the No. 5 overall prospect and top player in Louisiana, flipped his commitment from Texas to Florida on Sunday. Head coach Lane Kiffin and his staff pursued the five-star wide receiver for months but failed to keep him at home.
Despite an offseason coaching change and a 4-2 start to the 2026 season, LSU maintains a highly touted 2027 class. The Rivals Industry Ranking lists the group at No. 10 in the nation and No. 5 in the SEC. Texas A&M, Florida, Oklahoma and Texas are ahead of the Tigers.
Four-star tight end Ahmad Hudson, a Ruston, Louisiana, native, leads the purple and gold's class at No. 37 overall. He is one of four top-100 players in the class, along with edge rushers Chris Whitehead and K.J. Green and quarterback Peyton Houston.
Twelve of LSU's 16 commits are blue-chip prospects, meaning plenty of high-ceiling players are still slated to join Kiffin's team. Landing Royal would have boosted the class's standing in the conference, but the Tigers still have a solid 2027 crop.
