LSU football suffered its second loss of the season in Week 6. The Tigers fell 35-34 at Kentucky on Saturday. Head coach Lane Kiffin and his team hold a 4-2 record in his first season at the helm.
The upset cost LSU its top-10 standing in the AP poll. The most recent edition, released Sunday, has the purple and gold at No. 22. That is down 12 spots from where it started the week ahead of its tilt with the Wildcats, who vaulted into the poll at No. 15 with the victory.
Among SEC teams in the top 25, LSU ranks the lowest. Georgia took the No. 1 spot after defeating Alabama in Tuscaloosa. The Crimson Tide held its No. 6 spot from last week. Texas tumbled from the top spot to No. 7 after a loss to unranked Oklahoma. No. 9 Ole Miss, No. 13 Missouri, No. 14 Tennessee, No. 15 Kentucky and No. 16 Mississippi State round out the SEC's representation.

LSU needs to build its resume to climb back into the top 10 and contend for the College Football Playoff. It hosts Mississippi State on Saturday and has yet to face the Crimson Tide and the Longhorns.
