The Auburn Tigers will have their biggest challenge of the football season when they return from their bye week to play the No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs.
In the latest AP Top 25, Georgia jumped to the top spot after defeating No. 6 Alabama 20-17. The former No. 1 team, Texas, was defeated by unranked Oklahoma 27-24 on Saturday and dropped six spots to No. 7.
The last time Auburn played the No. 1 team in the AP Top 25 was in 2023, when it lost to the Georgia Bulldogs 27-20 in Hugh Freeze's first year as head coach. The last time the Tigers defeated the top-ranked team was in 2017, beating Alabama 26-14. Two weeks before that game, Auburn defeated Georgia, 40-17, when the Bulldogs were ranked No. 1.
The AP Poll saw some movement outside of Texas dropping six spots. The LSU Tigers fell the farthest, dropping from No. 10 to No. 22 after their 35-34 overtime loss to unranked Kentucky. However, that win by the Wildcats put them in the rankings at No. 15. Despite losing to Georgia, Alabama stayed at No. 6.
The remaining SEC teams in the AP Poll are Ole Miss (No. 9), Missouri (No. 13), Tennessee (No. 14), and Mississippi State (No. 16). The Florida Gators are out of the polls after losing to South Carolina last Saturday, 38-19.
