Texas A&M's 0-2 start in SEC play after entering the season with high hopes of returning to the College Football Playoff is disappointing, but the season isn't over; eight regular-season games remain, starting with a home game against Arkansas on Saturday night. If the Aggies can get it done and defeat the Razorbacks, fans will be much more engaged.

Again, it's way too early to discuss future Texas A&M rosters, but one of the Aggies' current freshman defenders deserves a full article focused on his impressive play during his first four appearances this season, as first-year linebacker Tamarion Watkins is currently Pro Football Network's highest-graded freshman, sitting at the top with an 89.1 grade.

Possessing elite length, Watkins is 6'4" and added more muscle to his frame this offseason, recording seven tackles, including three tackles during the Aggies' 35-6 blowout loss to LSU. Texas A&M's two-game losing streak has kept the freshman's play from getting wide recognition, but his future in College Station is clearly bright.

However, according to the last three SEC availability reports, Tamarion Watkins is listed as out for Texas A&M vs. Arkansas on Saturday, and third-year coach Mike Elko will likely provide an update after the game.

If Watkins is out for an extended period, the Aggies' linebacker depth will be impacted, but his future is set and could end up competing for a starting job, knowing change at the position is imminent after the 2026 season. Mike Elko will be judged by how the 2026 campaign ends, but if his 2026 freshman class reaches its full potential, Texas A&M will stay on the right path.
