The Oregon Ducks will be without wide receiver Evan Stewart against the Illinois Fighting Illini after his weekend arrest, and now separate court records have revealed that tight end Jamari Johnson was cited for speeding early Sunday morning.
Stewart was arrested Sunday morning in Springfield on a charge of driving under the influence of intoxicants. He had already missed Oregon’s 17-14 win over Nebraska with an undisclosed injury.
Head coach Dan Lanning said Monday that an unspecified incident “didn’t match our standard” and confirmed that Oregon would take disciplinary action while handling the matter internally. That doesn’t seem to have expanded to punishing Johnson for now.
Wednesday’s Big Ten availability report listed Stewart as out for Saturday’s road game. However, Johnson was not listed on the report and, according to ESPN, is “presumably” expected to remain available.
BREAKING: Oregon tight end Jamari Johnson was cited for Class A speeding in Springfield on the same night as Evan Stewart’s DUII arrest.
Police say Johnson NOT involved in the high-speed pursuit involving two vehicles, which is still under investigation. https://t.co/R3T8onxHpl— Ryan Clarke (@RyanTClarke) October 21, 2026
The Oregonian’s Ryan Clarke reported on Wednesday that court records showed Johnson was cited for speeding at 3:51 a.m. Sunday in Springfield. That happened more than an hour before Stewart was stopped and arrested in a separate incident.
According to Clarke, the case number on Johnson’s citation matches a separate high-speed pursuit the Springfield Police is currently investigating. Deputy chief George Crolly, however, told The Oregonian that Johnson was not involved in that pursuit.
“He was not involved in the high-speed pursuit,” Crolly said. “He was stopped well before Mr. Stewart’s arrest, so he was not part of the group of cars that were in the area when Mr. Stewart was stopped.”

Stewart leads Oregon with 27 receptions for 352 yards and four touchdowns through five games. Johnson has 17 catches for 224 yards and two touchdowns.
Oregon’s Wednesday availability report also ruled out quarterback Dante Moore, safety Aaron Flowers, defensive lineman Matthew Johnson, wide receivers Jeremiah McClellan and Jack Ressler, offensive linemen Immanuel Iheanacho and Trent Ferguson, and linebacker Brayden Platt.
The Ducks visit Illinois on Saturday at 3 p.m. ET, with both teams unranked heading into Week 8.
