LSU football won its second SEC game with a 31-0 victory over Mississippi State during Week 7. Head coach Lane Kiffin and his team bounced back after an overtime loss to unranked Kentucky the prior week.
The Tigers improved their rating from ESPN's Football Power Index (FPI) with the win. They remained in the No. 8 national spot with a 23.0 rating, almost three points higher than where it was at the end of Week 6. FPI measures a team's true strength on a net points scale using expected point margin against an average opponent on a neutral field.
Georgia (26.7), Alabama (24.2) and Texas (23.6) each dropped one spot after suffering losses in Week 7. They join LSU in representing the SEC in the FPI top 10. Ole Miss (18.8) climbed four spots to No. 11 followed by Tennessee (18.1) after disposing of the Crimson Tide at home.
LSU, after traveling to Auburn on Saturday, returns home to host Alabama and Texas to open November. The purple and gold must win out to put itself in contention for a College Football Playoff berth.
