The Georgia Bulldogs and Notre Dame Fighting Irish both dropped in ESPN's football power index after both teams suffered their first defeat of the season in Week 7. The Ohio State Buckeyes have moved up to No. 1 after earning a key road win over the Indiana Hoosiers. However, Ohio State's win came at a cost with starting quarterback Julian Sayin suffering an injury.
Georgia and Notre Dame did not drop far. Georgia is now No. 3 and Notre Dame is No. 2. Following Georgia and Notre Dame is No. 4 Miami. No. 5 Indiana rounds out the top five of FPI. which is defined as a "measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of a team's performance going forward" for the remainder of the season.
The FPI gives Georgia, Ohio State, Indiana, Notre Dame and Miami over 10% chances to win the national championship. No other team has over a 5% chance to win the national championship despite all of the chaos in Week 7.
FPI is notable low on undefeated UCLA, who is ranked as the No. 31 team. FPI also has undefeated BYU and Utah outside of the top-10.
FPI gives Georgia a 46.3% chance to win the SEC. Alabama has the second-best chances at 12.4%.
