While there were many high-profile games over the weekend in college football, the Washington Commanders had a scout at Texas’ game against Ole Miss, where quarterback Arch Manning helped the Longhorns defeat quarterback Trinidad Chambliss and the Rebels, handing Ole Miss just their second loss of the season.
It is highly unlikely Washington went to the game to scout Manning or Chambliss. But there are many other high-profile names the Commanders could have been looking at, primarily on offense.
The most obvious player Washington would be interested in playing in this game is Ole Miss running back Kewan Lacy. Lacy is one of the best running backs in college football and a key part of the Rebels’ offense. Last season, he led the FBS in rushing attempts with 306. He had 1,576 rushing yards and 24 rushing touchdowns, the most in the SEC. This season, he has been dealing with injuries and ultimately had to be carted off the field in the third quarter with a shoulder injury.
However, the Commanders scout got a show from Texas running back Raleek Brown, who finished the game with 157 rushing yards and averaged 6.8 yards per attempt. Brown originally declared for the 2026 NFL Draft before withdrawing his name and transferring to the Longhorns and is expected to be a day two or day three selection, which may be more feasible for the Commanders given their other needs.
Especially after Terry McLaurin’s season-ending injury and given his age, along with Stefon Diggs’, it wouldn't be surprising if Washington was scouting Texas wide receivers, Ryan Wingo or Cam Coleman. Wingo is known as a speedster and turned on the jets during this game for a 50-yard touchdown in the second quarter.
Last season, Wingo finished top-10 in the SEC in receiving yards and touchdowns. He is off to another strong season this year with 345 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Right now, he is viewed as a potential first-round pick, but could slide into the second round. The Commanders currently hold one pick in every round of the 2027 NFL Draft.
