The SEC announced Monday that Texas A&M’s game at South Carolina on Saturday, Nov. 7 will be played at 2:00 p.m. on ESPN. The Bonham Trophy is back up for grabs between the two programs after the Aggies completed the largest comeback in program history (27 points) to win 31-30 in College Station last year.
The Gamecocks and Aggies have played each other every year since 2014, their first ever matchup. That game on Thursday, Aug. 28, famously kicked off the new SEC Network and ushered in the Kenny Hill era; the quarterback’s 511 passing yards still stands as A&M’s single-game record.
Texas A&M dominated the beginning of the series, winning the first eight contests (2014-2021), before dropping a 30-24 decision in Columbia, S.C. in 2022. The home team has protected their turf, winning the most recent four games in the series. As previously stated, this is a rare SEC trophy game as the teams will play for the James Bonham Trophy. Bonham, a South Carolinian who also was an USC alum, fought for the Texans at the Battle of the Alamo during the Texas Revolution. He lost his life in the siege at the San Antonio mission on Mar. 6, 1836 at the age of 29. When South Carolina was announced as one of A&M’s permanent cross-division opponents (when the SEC still had the East and West), the schools came together to create a “rivalry.”
The Maroon and White (4-4, 1-4 SEC) will enter the Palmetto State following their bye week, looking for their first win in Williams-Brice Stadium since 2020. Meanwhile, the Gamecocks (4-3, 2-3) will travel to Norman, Okla., for a date with the Sooners on Halloween at 3:15 p.m. on the SEC Network.
