Colorado Buffaloes coach Deion Sanders dismissed three players from the team after the Northwestern loss. Roundtable Sports has learned the names of the players who are no longer with the team. All of them are defensive backs, with Jah Jah Boyd, Justin Eaglin and Paul Omodia now exiting Boulder.
The Athletic was the first to report the details. A team source confirmed the report ahead of Colorado's game with No. 12 Texas Tech on Saturday night. This comes after Sanders said he booted players from the team.
Sanders initially mentioned that he dismissed players from the team four days after Colorado’s 41-7 loss at Northwestern. There was no confirmation by Colorado on whom the players were and said there was no confirmation of any roster changes.
According to a source familiar with the situation, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said this wasn't related to a personnel issue. But didn't want to elaborate on why the three players were cut from the team.
Boyd transferred to Colorado from Indiana after the 2025 season. He played four games and won a national championship with the Hoosiers under Curt Cignetti. Boyd appeared in three games for Sanders and the Buffs, racking up 13 total tackles and a forced fumble.
Coach Prime gave a glowing review of Boyd after the Buffaloes’ most recent win over Weber State.
"You can count on him to give everything he has. He’s very emotional, but he plays with that and I love that about him. I don’t want him to change a thing," Sanders said about Boyd.
Eaglin transferred to Colorado after spending four seasons at James Madison. He played in Colorado’s first two games of the season.
Omodia transferred to Colorado from Lamar. He was seldom used as a fourth string player in the secondary.
“When you start with conduct detrimental to the team, you don’t care about the team, you care about you, I have a problem with that,” Sanders said during one of his weekly press conferences.
He followed that up by saying there were a few "knuckleheads" that Colorado needed to deal with. "I didn’t want to poison the team," Sanders added.
Colorado started the season 2-2, including a 23-13 loss at Baylor last weekend. Sanders is in the midst of his fourth season in Boulder with an 18-23 record ahead of the CU Big 12 home opener against Texas Tech.
The Red Raiders make their first trip to Colorado in 16 years. The Buffs beat Texas Tech in Lubbock the last time these two teams played each other during the 2024 season.
No. 12 Texas Tech at Colorado kicks off Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET on FOX.
