Week 6 of the college football season was an interesting one. We saw the #1 team in the country go down, another marquee matchup among two highly ranked teams in Alabama-Georgia, some other contenders tested, and some memorably moments and plays. Plus, UNC even picked up a pretty decent win, taking down previously unbeaten Pitt.

A weekend like that lead to a bit of a shakeup in the AP Poll. Let’s check on where the ranking fell this week.

AP Top 25

  1. Georgia (66 first place votes)
  2. Notre Dame (1)
  3. Miami (FL) (2)
  4. Ohio State
  5. Indiana (1)
  6. Alabama
  7. Texas
  8. BYU
  9. Ole Miss
  10. Texas Tech
  11. Utah
  12. UCLA
  13. Missouri
  14. Tennessee
  15. Kentucky
  16. Mississippi State

  19. USC
  20. Houston
  21. Wake Forest
  22. LSU
  23. Boise State
  24. SMU
  25. Northwestern

Where is UNC?

Taking down Pitt is a solid enough win for the Tar Heels, but it wasn’t enough to get them any votes in the AP Poll, never mind get them into the Top 25. One person in the Coaches Poll did give them a vote, though, so that’s something.

Biggest Winners

We have a new #1 as Georgia has taken the top spot after beating Alabama in conjunction with Texas getting upset by Oklahoma. However, we have some big risers among the news teams entering this week’s Top 25. Northwestern and Wake Forest went from unranked to #25 and #21 respectively, while Kentucky jumped all the way into the top 15 after knocking off LSU.

Biggest Losers

On the other side of Kentucky’s jump is LSU, as the Tigers held onto a ranking, but did fall all the way to #22 after being in the top ten last week. Meanwhile, Carolina knocked Pitt not only out of the rankings but of the voting totals entirely. Considering how they looked with a backup quarterback, they might not be back, either.
