Wisconsin hosted Shakopee (Minn.) linebacker Blake Betton on Saturday for their game against USC and the Badgers wound up flipping his commitment from Penn State, adding the four-star senior to their 2027 class.

Betton committed to Penn State in April. Wisconsin was one of the finalists at that time. Nebraska, Arizona State, Northwestern, Missouri, and Iowa were some of the other schools that were considered.

Wisconsin stayed in contact with Betton following the commitment and things continued to progress this fall. The visit then materialized and Betton flipped while on the trip.

“I would just say the relationship I built with Tuf (Borland),” Betton said in the spring about his Badger interest. “He’s been to the house, he came to basketball games, Coach Fickell came to a basketball game, so they definitely made it clear they want me in.”

At 6-foot-3, 205 pounds, Betton has played safety and wide receiver in high school but figures to grow into a college linebacker. He has played in the box at times, but also in the deep part of the secondary at times.

He has helped Shakopee to a 7-1 record as a senior. His father Ray Betton is the head coach at Shakopee, so he has grown up around the game.
