ESPN's Football Power Index was not kind to the Colorado Buffaloes after their blowout loss to Northwestern, their first loss of the season. Since the initial 20-point drop, the Buffs have fallen only two spots despite losses to Baylor and, most recently, a top-10 Texas Tech team.
The Buffs hold a -0.5 football power index score, interestingly, up 0.1 from last week. CU still sits in the basement of the Big 12 in FPI and holds the worst projected record of any Big 12 team at 4.1-7.9. With that record, the Buffs would fall two wins short of bowl eligibility, and the program's chance to win six games continues to plummet to 13.9%.
It should not come as a surprise, but Colorado now has a zero percent chance to win the Big 12, make the College Football Playoff, and obviously win the national championship.
A win would do Colorado a world of good, but it won't be easy with another top-15 team coming into Boulder: the Utah Utes. The Utes are tied with Texas Tech as the No. 11 overall team and the top Big 12 team, per FPI.
Colorado football's updated FPI ranking after Week 5 loss
- FPI Rank: No. 72 (last in Big 12)
- Projected win-loss record: 4.1-7.9
- Six-win chance: 13.9%
- CFP chance: 0.0%
- Big 12 title chance: 0.0%
