Ole Miss Rebels quarterback Trinidad Chambliss will enter Saturday’s game against the Auburn Tigers without one of his top weapons.
Head coach Pete Golding confirmed Monday that running back Kewan Lacy will not play against the Tigers.
Lacy suffered a shoulder injury during Saturday’s 34-27 loss at Texas and left the game after taking a hit and landing hard on the ground. Golding revealed his injury is different from the shoulder issue Lacy had battled earlier this season.
“Kewan dislocated his shoulder in the game,” Golding said. “You know, so it wasn’t exactly what it was before. It was different. So you know, with the combination of both of those, obviously he’s not going to play this week.
“Then, we’re going to evaluate that moving forward, kind of what that looks like.”

After his initial remarks on Lacy’s absence for the game against Auburn, Golding doubled down and left no room for a late change in status.
“I know normally people wouldn’t tell you that—but there’s no chance—that, you know, we’re going to try (to bring him back) at all this week,” Golding said.
Golding detailed where Lacy’s at with regard to his injury, saying the running back is still undergoing evaluation and MRIs, with no timetable beyond the Auburn game.
“He’s still going through the rehab process. We’re still getting some MRIs and all that stuff,” Golding said. “But it was definitely a different injury than what it was.”

Lacy rushed for 36 yards on 16 rushing attempts against Texas, adding one reception for six yards. He has 388 rushing yards and five touchdowns this season after producing 1,567 yards and 24 rushing scores in 2025. Lacy has also added 33 receiving yards on 10 receptions to his 2026 tally.
With Lacy out, the Rebels will likely push Makhi Frazier into a larger role on Saturday. Frazier has rushed for 301 yards on 51 carries over six games, while Golding also mentioned Shekai Mills-Knight, JT Lindsey and Josh Dye as his alternative backfield options.
“I think Makhi has come in and played well,” Golding said. “I think with Kewan being out this week, I think, you know, Shekai is going to have a real opportunity this week as well.”
