Texas Tech football traveled to Boulder to take on Deion Sanders’ Colorado Buffaloes giving the Red Raiders a chance to move on from a tough Thomas Castellanos eligibility ruling. Red Raiders running back Cameron Dickey has come up big in the clutch this season, but went down with an injury in Boulder.

Dickey’s status was updated by Cory Whitman of The Daily Toreador in Lubbock, Texas.

“Texas Tech running back Cameron Dickey leaves Colorado game with injury…Red Raiders’ lead running back appeared to suffer (an) injury to his left leg on (a) tackle,” Whitman said.

Dickey had four carries for 15 yards as part of Texas Tech’s running-back-by-committee approach, as both Quinten Joyner and J’Koby Williams had more yardage. Halftime in Boulder saw the Buffaloes clinging to a 7-3 lead buoyed by quarterback Isaac Wilson’s 8-of-13 passing night that included 120 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions.

The Red Raiders narrowly beat Houston in Week 3 causing some fans to panic and coach Joey McGuire to reevaluate things. The running game remained a big part of their offensive attack heading into Week 5, but yielded only 87 yards as the Buffaloes made things difficult on the visitors. Colorado finished with 220 yards at halftime compared to 147 for McGuire’s team.

As the night continued to unfold, it became clear that the Red Raiders had a dogfight on their hands against a Buffaloes team with faint but flickering hopes of competing for a Big 12 championship. The potential return of Dickey was not known, but his injury showed how unpredictable the sport of football can be, while putting the onus on the Red Raiders’ other running backs to step up and lead the way to a big conference victory.
