The biggest upset of the 2026 college football season to date happened on Saturday.
No. 1 Texas lost to Oklahoma 27-24 on a last-second field goal by Tate Sandell. Sandell drilled a 47-yard kick to win it, giving Oklahoma its first victory over Texas since the 2023 season.

Texas quarterback Arch Manning had a fourth quarter to forget, throwing a pick-six early in the final frame before throwing another interception with less than a minute left, giving Oklahoma time to hit the game-winning kick.
Oklahoma is the eighth unranked team since 2000 to beat the AP No. 1 team in the country and, to make matters worse, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian has been part of three of those losses. Sarkisian was the offensive coordinator at USC when the program lost to Oregon State in 2008 and Stanford in 2007.
It’s not a good stat to be involved in, even though 18 years passed between the losses.
What’s next for Steve Sarkisian and Texas?

Texas will move down in the AP poll once it comes out Sunday afternoon, but the program still has everything in front of it for the rest of the season.
The Longhorns will try to get back in the win column next Saturday against Florida.
