The Texas football team is trying to win out in order to preserve a chance to make the College Football Playoff this season. Texas is coming off a big win over Ole Miss, but the Longhorns have a reason to be concerned.
That is because one of the team’s best offensive linemen is out for the year.
“Sources: Texas star left tackle Trevor Goosby will miss the remainder of the season after suffering a knee injury against Ole Miss on Saturday. Goosby is the country’s top NFL prospect at left tackle, as ESPN’s Field Yates ranked him the No. 8 pick in his most recent mock draft,” ESPN’s Pete Thamel posted to X, formerly Twitter.

Texas is currently 5-2 on the season. The Longhorns are 2-2 in the SEC. Texas must immediately pivot following the loss of this key offensive lineman.
The loss of Goosby means Texas will have to do an even better job of protecting quarterback Arch Manning. Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian tipped his cap to his quarterback after the Ole Miss game.
“The edginess that I touched on, I think, carried over to our team,” Sarkisian said of Manning, per ESPN. “I think our team played that way because of him. When he responds that way, when he plays that way, when he shows that fire in his belly that he had tonight, I think the team responds to that.”
Despite the win, Sarkisian sees room for improvement with his team. Texas committed 14 penalties in that game, and turned the ball over three times.
Texas next plays Mississippi State on Saturday. The Longhorns have losses this season to Florida and Oklahoma.
