In the last 90 years, only three teams have entered a weekend No. 1 in the AP Top 25 and gone on to lose to unranked teams in back-to-back weeks. The Texas Longhorns are now one of those teams after blowing leads to the Oklahoma Sooners and the Florida Gators to drop in both major polls.
In the Coaches Poll, Texas fell from No. 6 to No. 18 after Saturday’s 27-24 loss to Florida in Austin, the largest slide in the poll on a wild weekend in college football that saw No. 1 Georgia, No. 2 Notre Dame, No. 4 Indiana, and No. 7 Alabama all suffer defeats.
The top five in the Coaches Poll are now Miami, Ohio State, BYU, Georgia, and Texas Tech.
In the AP Top 25, the Longhorns dropped from No. 7 to No. 19. The irony in that? Texas is still one spot ahead of Florida, which jumped back into the poll, but didn’t surpass the team that it beat on the road Saturday.
