And just like that, Alabama went from unstoppable and dominant, crushing and killing everything in its path on the way to a 5-0 start, to on the verge of being knocked out of the SEC and College Football Playoff chases.
The 20-17 loss to Georgia was forgivable – bad weather, great opponent, controversial calls – but getting sacked by Tennessee 26-10 turned the season upside down. The College Football Playoff can do whatever it wants, but one more loss, and that’s realistically it for the national title dream.
Texas A&M tapped out of the CFP and SEC Championship mix before the first half of the season was over, but now it’s free to just go out there and play. The Aggies have talent, and now they can play loose and free.

Why Texas A&M Will Win
What’s going right with the Aggies?
The offense managed just six points against both LSU and Missouri, the passing game is too erratic, and the running game didn’t go anywhere in the games against both Tiger teams. Yeah, but the defense is still outstanding at coming up with third-down stops and gives up just 306 total yards per game.
Alabama has turned it over seven times over the last three games, but most of all, the explosion has left the building. The Tide was good, good, good, and then … boom. One big play would spark the offense. That didn’t happen against Georgia and Tennessee.
Why Alabama Will Win
No, Texas A&M really, really can’t score. Okay, so the offense is struggling – Texas A&M is 0-3 when completing fewer than 60% of its passes, and Bama is 5-0 when teams hit 61% or fewer – but the bigger issue in this game will be the total lack of a pass rush.
The Aggies had 25 sacks over the first seven games last year, and then sacked LSU seven times. This year … five. Texas A&M has five whole sacks on the year so far, with just one in the last four games.
Yes, Alabama’s offense is having issues – the knee injury suffered by star receiver Ryan Williams-Coleman didn’t help – but Keelon Russell will get time to work after the offense was buried by the Tennessee defensive front.
Texas A&M vs Alabama Prediction, Betting Lines
And just like that, all will be right with the Alabama world – at least for this week.
The defense will come up with a wonderful performance, and while the offense won’t be exactly like it was before the two-game slide, it’ll be effective enough to push through for a decisive win to get everything back on track.
It just might take a half to get there.
