Tennessee enters the game Saturday with a 6-2 record on the year. Another loss would significantly harm the team’s chances of reaching the CFP. Kentucky meanwhile enters the game with a top 10 national ranking.
Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel knows Kentucky will be a very tough challenge for his team.
“You look at their ability to win multiple ways. Finish games, turnover margin, they’ve been elite. One of the least penalized teams in the league. Playing really smart in all three phases, so it’ll be a great test. And we are looking forward to it,” Heupel said, per On3.
Heupel says his defense must play a near-perfect game to defeat the Wildcats.
“Defensively, we got to control the line of scrimmage. You got to get them into third ball situations. You got to get them off the field. There’s a lot of eye candy shift-trade motion before the snap. So communication at all three levels of the defense, playing in sync will be critical in this one too,” Heupel said.
Heupel has been the head coach at Tennessee since 2021. His Volunteers have had some very successful seasons, but are still looking for the school’s first national championship in his tenure there.
Tennessee is currently 3-2 in the SEC. Tennessee and Kentucky play Saturday at 6:15 ET. Kentucky enters the game with a 7-1 record.
