Before the season started, Oregon Ducks quarterback Dante Moore and Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning were projected to be the top signal-callers taken in the 2027 NFL Draft.
Through the first month of the college football calendar, Moore and Manning have much to do to boost their stock before the draft. Texas owns the No. 1 ranking, but the Longhorns defense has been the main reason for their success this season. Manning has not been as sharp as he was expected to play.
Moore played well in the season opener, but struggled in Oregon's loss to Oklahoma State in Week 2. He suffered a concussion in Oregon's 41-27 win over USC in Week 4. Through his first four games, Moore has thrown for 926 yards and nine touchdowns. He's thrown no interceptions.
Tony Pauline of Essentially Sports spoke to an NFL general manager who suggested Moore's concussion was a “red flag" for him. He compared Moore to Tua Tagovailoa as a worst-case scenario.
Moore will have plenty of opportunities to showcase his talents before the end of the season. The Ducks will host No. 21 UCLA on Saturday, though it's unclear if Moore will start due to the aftermath of the concussion. He practiced on Monday, but head coach Dan Lanning didn't specify how much he did at practice.
Obviously, all eyes will be on Moore and Oregon when the Ducks go on the road to play Ohio State on Nov. 7. That could be a game that Oregon has to win to have a chance to play in the Big Ten Championship or make the College Football Playoff.
Moore should give the Ducks an edge in that game, as he can provide the offense a boost that Julian Sayin doesn't with Ohio State. Sayin is a good quarterback, but he's been more of a game manager and missed key throws that would have allowed the Buckeyes to put away Texas in Week 2.
Dylan Raiola is turning heads this season.
Moore is getting attention from NFL scouts this season, but Raiola should be getting similar hype next season. The two-year starter at Nebraska looked good when being thrown into the fire against USC.
Raiola has thrown for 413 yards and five touchdowns this season. If Moore cannot play on Saturday, Raiola would get the start against the Bruins. Given his play against USC, the coaching staff doesn't have to push Moore to get back on the field too quickly.
