Florida Hosts 4-Star WR in Attempt to Flip Commitment

Jon Sumrall and the Florida Gators hosted four-star wide receiver Ja’Hyde Brown on a visit. Brown remains 100 percent committed to the Louisville Cardinals, but he took a visit to Florida and plans to visit the Texas Longhorns as well.

If Sumrall and the Gators can poach Brown, he would be a major addition to their receiver room. He had an incredible 2025 season, catching 98 passes for 1,566 yards and 24 touchdowns.

Brown is an explosive receiver who thrives at getting yards after the catch. Florida could use a weapon like that in their offense, which is poised to look different in 2027. The Gators currently lean heavily on the run, with Heisman contender Jadan Baugh leading the way.

However, Baugh will likely enter the 2027 NFL Draft, which could shake up how Florida runs their offense next season. Baugh has been an incredible player throughout his career with the Gators.

In his freshman season, he had 673 yards and seven touchdowns while catching four passes for 33 yards and a touchdown. In 2025, Baugh took on a larger role and thrived, rushing for 1,170 yards and eight touchdowns, along with 33 receptions for 210 yards and two touchdowns.

With Sumrall taking over the program in the 2026 season, he brought over a ton of talent through the transfer portal. This has helped Baugh take his game to the next level, as he has 613 yards and 11 touchdowns through the first five games of the season.

Florida's passing game has been solid, but hasn't stood out. Quarterback Aaron Philo has completed 69.4 percent of his passes for 1,114 yards, eight touchdowns, and two interceptions. His top targets have been wide receivers Dallas Wilson and Vernell Brown III.

Wilson has 18 receptions for 302 yards and three touchdowns, while Brown III has 17 receptions for 271 yards and two touchdowns.

They have been quality weapons, but the passing game is still missing something. Sumrall and his coaching staff should keep searching for offensive talent in the 2027 class to improve the roster.

Sumrall has completely turned around the Gators' football program, as they've gone from a 4-8 record in 2025 to a contender for a College Football Playoff berth in 2026. That turnaround should be intriguing for a recruit like Brown, and if he flips his commitment, he could become a pivotal piece for their offense in 2027 and beyond.
