STILLWATER — Oklahoma State coach Eric Morris and the Cowboys are returning to the state of Texas.
Bringing in a coach from the University of North Texas and 21 of his former Mean Green players has brought the Cowboys success. OSU is 4-1 this season and riding a four-game winning streak.
Houston hosts OSU on Saturday in a game of Big 12 heavyweights that could determine who gets a trip back to Texas on Friday, Dec. 4, for the Big 12 Championship Game. Houston ranks No. 18 in the USA Today coaches' poll. OSU ranks No. 20.
Houston’s only loss this season came by inches in a Friday night game at Texas Tech. The Cougars have won three straight and has Big 12 wins over UCF and Kansas State.
“Obviously, we gotta reset really fast and get ready to go on the road and hopefully be a top-25 matchup, right?” Morris said. “And be able to play at Houston at night, a team that's playing really good right now. So, yeah, it's not gonna get any easier in this conference.”
Houston leads the all-time series vs OSU 11-10-1. The series is 1-1 since the Cougars joined the Big 12.

Scouting Houston
2026 Record: 5-1, 2-1 Big 12
Best player: Tight end Patrick Overmyer leads the Cougars in receiving yards (400) and touchdowns (six). He stands 6-foot-5, 240 pounds and is the biggest receiving threat at tight end OSU has faced this season. Overmyer caught four touchdowns last week against Kansas State.
The case for Houston: The Cougars’ offense ranks just above OSU’s as the Cougars average 40 points per game to OSU’s 38.2. OSU’s defense may not be able to stand up to the Cougars for a full four quarters. In Big 12 wins against West Virginia and UCF, OSU’s defense has looked vulnerable in both first halves.
The case for OSU: Quarterback Drew Mestemaker and the Cowboy offense hasn't been stopped since the season-opener. Mestemaker has topped 300 passing yards in four straight games and OSU has scored at least 40 points in three consecutive games. Plenty of fans wearing orange are expected to be present in TDECU Stadium, so this will be an atmosphere the Cowboys can turn in their favor with early offensive fireworks.
