On Saturday, the Ohio State football program continued its winning ways with a comfortable 42-19 home win over Illinois, holding strong at the number five spot in the country in the process. The Buckeyes have now won two straight games since their ugly collapse against the Texas Longhorns a couple of weeks ago.
Still, it wasn’t all positive for Ohio State on Saturday, as the team gave up a ton of rushing yards against an overmatched Illinois team, and defensive end Kenyatta Jackson Jr. was not thrilled about it.
“200 rushing yards is ridiculous. We can’t have that,” he said, per Joey Kaufman of The Columbus Dispatch on X, formerly Twitter.

Kaufman also reported that “Illinois’ 199 rushing yards were the most the Buckeyes had allowed since their loss to Missouri in the Cotton Bowl in 2023.”
Overall, Ohio State’s offense showed up in full force for this game, with Jeremiah Smith putting together some more highlight reel catches and the team not relinquishing control after they had built a big lead, showing some maturation from the Texas loss.
Still, in order for the Buckeyes to reach their full potential this year, they’ll certainly have to be better at defending the rush, and making sure that each opponent has their full attention every week.
They certainly shouldn’t have a hard time getting up for next week’s game against number 14-ranked Iowa, which recently upset Michigan on the road and will have ESPN’s College Gameday crew in attendance prior to the contest.
Kickoff between the Buckeyes and Hawkeyes is set for Saturday at 3:30 pm ET from Iowa.
