The Colorado Buffaloes fell 2-2 on the season after suffering a 23-13 Week 4 loss to the Baylor Bears. It was an ugly outing that led to head coach Deion Sanders subbing out quarterback Julian Lewis mid-game. Heading into Week 5 against a tough No. 12 Texas Tech Red Raiders team, it appears the quarterback change is staying intact.
Reports indicate that Colorado will start Isaac Wilson on Saturday, according to Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports. After providing some stability against Baylor, Sanders seemingly wants to see what Wilson can do against the Red Raiders.
“Colorado is currently expected to make a change at quarterback and start Isaac Wilson at QB this week against No. 12 Texas Tech, sources tell CBS Sports,” Zenitz reported. “Former blue-chip recruit Julian Lewis has started the team’s first four games and threw for 366 yards in Week 2 but was pulled in favor of Wilson during last week’s game against Baylor. The Buffaloes now currently expected to stick with Wilson vs. Texas Tech.”

Isaac Wilson is the younger brother of former BYU Cougars star and first-round pick Zach Wilson. The junior signal-caller transferred from the Utah Utes in the offseason after playing just one game in the 2025-26 campaign. He’s made two appearances this season, totaling 153 yards and one touchdown while completing 51.9% of his pass attempts. He’ll have a chance to get some revenge against Utah in Week 7, assuming Wilson is still the starter by then.
Julian Lewis, on the other hand, heads back to the bench after initially being named the starter. Through four games, Lewis has recorded 733 yards, six touchdowns, and two interceptions with a 64.2% completion percentage.
