Kentucky Wildcats survive another absolutely wild weekend of college football upsets

If you like chaos, then this weekend’s slate of college football games was right up your alley. Ranked teams fell, OT all over the place, and Kentucky stayed above the fray against a feisty Vanderbilt team.

BYU had a massive win last week over Notre Dame, jumped up to number 2, and immediately lost to a .500 UCF team in double OT. But it almost didn’t make it to OT. UCF lined up to hit a game-winning field goal, only for BYU to block it.

Then in OT, a questionable roughing-the-kicker penalty let UCF have another chance, and they converted. BYU was unable to do so and lost 39-31.

No. 6 Indiana barely survived a Michigan team that benched Bryce Underwood, 13-6 in OT.

Another undefeated team, No. 8 Texas Tech, saw a 4-2 Cincinnati team score 21 points in the 2nd quarter and upset the Red Raiders 37-24.

And in the SEC, South Carolina shocked the No. 11 Vols 27-24. No. 19 Texas held on despite a late rally from Ole Miss that saw an onside kick set up a tense final minute, 34-27 (was up 24-3).

For now, Kentucky is all alone at the top of the SEC. The Cats and Vols both have a bye week before a huge matchup down in Knoxville. If Kentucky wins, they are in a great position to make the SEC Championship game with just 2 conference games to go.

Elsewhere, No. 15 Iowa lost to unranked Minnesota 13-10, unranked Wisconsin dominated No. 16 USC 24-7, and No. 10 Utah barely escaped by No. 14 Houston, a game the Cougars led much of the way.

That means four teams ranked ahead of Kentucky found themselves taking an L.

The Cats will definitely climb into the top 10; the question is: How high will the Cats climb?
