Kentucky Wildcats have the best resume in college football and are in first place in the SEC

Here is a sentence I’m not sure I ever imagined typing: After beating the Vanderbilt Commodores 34-17, the Kentucky Wildcats have the best resume in college football.

Here is another sentence I’m not sure I ever imagined typing: Kentucky is in first place in the SEC heading into the month of November.

With Georgia on a bye, the Wildcats now have the most conference wins of any SEC team, putting them alone in first place for at least the next week. And Georgia is the only other SEC team with just one loss. Everyone else has at least two defeats, so Kentucky has some wiggle room to work with entering the final three games of conference play vs. Tennessee, Florida, and Missouri.

Elsewhere, ESPN’s Strength of Record ranking had Kentucky at 2nd nationally last week, only behind the BYU Cougars. In a major upset, BYU was defeated by UCF in double-overtime 39-31.

With that loss, coupled with Kentucky’s win over Vanderbilt, Kentucky ‘should’ take over the top spot with the best resume in college football.

When looking at Kentucky’s resume, that win over South Carolina in Columbia looks even better, as the Gamecocks defeated Tennessee at home this weekend by a score of 27-24 to improve to 4-3 overall. LSU also went on the road and soundly defeated Auburn 38-17, the same team that defeated top-ranked Georgia last week.

Additionally, Oklahoma went on the road and defeated Mississippi State 23-15.

Kentucky enters its bye week at 7-1 with a 5-1 mark in SEC play. The Wildcats return to action on Saturday, November 7th, for a big game in Knoxville, as the Cats will take on the Tennessee Vols.
