The Florida Gators jumped up 13 spots from No. 21 to No. 8 after beating then-No. 4 Ole Miss on Saturday.

A 13-ranking jump in one week is pretty good for Week 5. Remember, before the Gators played Auburn in Week 3, Florida had yet to be ranked.

Associated Press poll voters needed to do the eyeball test to determine how good Florida was with new head coach Jon Sumrall. The Gators squeaked by Auburn 44-39 on the road, good enough to be the No. 21 team in the country.

Florida absolutely made a statement this past weekend, blowing the doors off an Ole Miss team that beat LSU in Week 3.

During "Josh Pate's College Football Show" on Sunday night, the host argued that the Gators might be too low-ranked at No. 8. He thinks some voters have teams in front of Florida due to the "preseason ideas" of how teams would do this season.

Outside of No. 1 Texas, who beat Ohio State and Tennessee, the Gators have the best resume in college football.

Here are the seven teams in front of Florida this week: Texas, Georgia, Notre Dame, Miami, Ohio State, Indiana, and Alabama.

It's hard to see where the Gators would be bumped. Maybe Indiana, who had trouble putting away Northwestern, could move lower. Alabama has played impressively in the last few weeks.

In the next month, Florida has a chance to seriously ascend the rankings or fall out completely. The Gators will next travel to play No. 25 Missouri on Saturday. The Tigers were defeated by Mississippi State in Week 4.

Then the Gators will host South Carolina on Oct. 10. The Gamecocks might not have a pulse by then.

Florida will end its month by traveling to play No. 1 Texas on Oct. 17. Then after a bye, the Gators will play rival Georgia on Oct. 31.

A win against Georgia to Texas could cement the Gators in the College Football Playoff. A loss to both would be understandable, but would push them out of the Top 10 rankings.

The Gators have a great chance to make the CFP as long as they continue to get better on defense and Jadan Baugh stays healthy. Eventually, quarterback Aaron Philo will be asked to do more things to carry the offense.

A No. 8 ranking feels just about right in the meantime, before the Gators play Texas.
