For the third team this season, Texas A&M found itself on the wrong end of the result, as the Aggies were outclassed by No. 14 Missouri 27-6 on Saturday.

To the Aggies' credit, the matchup was tighter than the final score indicated for most of the afternoon.

But the biggest issue that kept Texas A&M from taking full advantage was once again its offensive ineptitude.

The Aggies were held out of the end zone in Columbia and struggled to string together a competent drive across the entire game.

The best showing from A&M came after the Tigers went up 20-3 early in the fourth quarter, with quarterback Marcel Reed leading the team into the red zone for only the second time.

However, that series stalled out on the 10-yard line and head coach Mike Elko chose to take the points to make it a two-score game following a short field goal.

But the Aggies never got close to replicating that momentum down the stretch, with the exception of a touchdown that was called back on their final drive that came after Mizzou had already essentially ended the game off another score.

As disappointing as the performance was, it is not a new occurrence for the Aggies.

Just two weeks ago, LSU mauled Texas A&M on both sides of the ball in Baton Rouge and refused to let the Aggies score a touchdown or anything more than six points in a 35-6 defeat.

There is always more than one person to blame for any team's lack of success, but Reed has left much to be desired and his outings have done nothing to inspire confidence in College Station.

After leading the Aggies to the College Football Playoff a year ago, expectations were high for the senior passer and he has yet to live up to any of them.

Against the Tigers, Reed threw for a measly 187 yards on 19-of-39 passing with two costly interceptions.

He was not much more effective on the ground, as the usual dual-threat went for a net of -18 yards on seven carries for the Aggies.

The rest of the unit was not able to get anything going in the midst of Reed's struggles, with Texas A&M punting a staggering seven times.

In all of Texas A&M's losses this year, Reed has totaled for one touchdown and thrown for over 200 yards in only one of those games.

In fact, Reed has not thrown for a touchdown since that score against Kentucky nor broken the 200-yard mark just twice, which came against the Wildcats and Missouri State.

Should Reed be benched? That's a discussion item.

Should coach Mike Elko continue jousting with his critics after calling one Aggies-loving outlet a "cesspool''? That's unwise.

These poor offensive performances come alongside a fairly strong showing from the Aggies' defense this season, as they have given the team chances time and time again before eventually buckling late in games.

Luckily for Texas A&M, it gets to return home and welcome The Citadel to Kyle Field for what should be as close to a guaranteed win as possible and an opportunity to make a response.

The hopes of making it back to the CFP are hanging on by a thread and they will not last much longer if the Aggies do not figure out how to generate a spark on the offensive side of the ball.
