When Ole Miss head coach Pete Golding announced that running back Kewan Lacy dislocated his shoulder in the Rebels' game against the Texas Longhorns two weeks ago, there were questions on if he would play the game against Georgia. Unfortunately for Ole Miss, Golding gave a rough update. Ole Miss running back Kewan Lacy is unlikely to play against Georgia, according to the Clarion-Ledger.
No. 2 Georgia (7-1, 5-1 in SEC) goes on the road to face No. 12 Ole Miss (6-2, 4-2 in SEC) in Oxford. Lacy missed the Rebels' 45-15 win against Auburn on Oct. 31. Golding said Lacy is still recovering and rehabbing from the injury.
"It's a work in progress," Golding said. "We're not expecting to have him this week. This isn't something that's going to happen overnight. He's still working hard at it. Hopefully we'll know sooner than later, but not expecting him this week."
Makhi Frazier has been the No. 2 running back for the Rebels this season, but they used multiple running backs against Auburn. Shekai Mills-Knight led the team with 71 rushing yards in 16 carries, and JT Lindsey also got three carries.
Lacy injured the same shoulder in Ole Miss' win against LSU, and it caused him to miss the game against Florida. He first injured that shoulder in last year's College Football Playoff win over Tulane. While he stayed active during the rest of Ole Miss's run to the CFP semifinal, he underwent offseason surgery.
So far this season, Lacy has had 421 yards and five touchdowns in 88 touches. He's building off of a breakout sophomore season, where he registered 1,567 yards and 24 touchdowns on 306 carries. He played twice against Georgia, recording 31 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries in the regular-season loss and another 98 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries in Ole Miss's Sugar Bowl win. Georgia fans will keep his status in mind this weekend. The SEC availability report comes out on Wednesday night.
