The Oklahoma Sooners are in the running for one of the best prospects in the 2028 class.

On the back of making the top 5 for the state’s top prospect, Oklahoma is on the radar for four-star running back Jayshawn Mitchell.

He informed Rivals of his upcoming visit dates, and the Sooners are on the schedule. Mitchell plans to visit Georgia (October 3); Ohio State (October 10); Texas (October 17); and return to Oklahoma (October 31). This announcement comes as Mitchell returns from visits to Texas A&M and SMU in September.

The 5-foot-11, 200-pound running back’s date to visit Norman will be during Oklahoma’s matchup with South Carolina. Mitchell, from San Antonio, Texas, last visited the Sooners in July. It was reported that the Sooners made a strong impression on him. Mitchell currently has 35 Power Four offers, including Oklahoma, Georgia, Ohio State, Texas, Texas A&M, Notre Dame, Oregon, Penn State, and Texas Tech.

He brings a lot of what the Sooners need. As a sophomore in 2025, Mitchell carried the ball 31 times for 255 yards and two touchdowns. He also recorded 26 receptions for 474 yards and eight touchdowns. Mitchell is the nation's No. 116 overall prospect and the No. 8 running back in Rivals industry rankings. In Texas, he's the No. 13 recruit. 247Sports ranks Mitchell at No. 7 running back in the 2028 class and No. 16 in Texas.

Sam Spiegelman of Rivals issued a prediction in favor of Oklahoma back on July 22. And that has not changed as of September. Spiegelman reports the Sooners lead on the Rivals RPM and have not skipped a beat recruiting the Rivals300 prospect. It appears OU running backs coach Deland McCullough is a big reason why. The Sooners will have to find out come Halloween.
