Florida’s stay in the top 10 lasted one week.

The Gators dropped eight spots to No. 16 in the latest AP Top 25 Poll after an ugly 45-17 loss to Missouri, undoing much of the momentum gained from their 13-spot jump after the Ole Miss win.

Missouri, as one would expect, made the opposite move. The Tigers climbed 11 spots from No. 25 to No. 14 after handing Florida its first loss of the season, charging ahead of the Gators in both the national rankings and the SEC pecking order.

Florida received 691 points in this week’s poll, down from 1,272 a week ago. The Gators are now the eighth-highest-ranked SEC team behind No. 1 Texas, No. 2 Georgia, No. 6 Alabama, No. 9 Ole Miss, No. 10 LSU, No. 14 Missouri and No. 15 Tennessee.

Mississippi State checks in at No. 17 while Kentucky dropped out of the top 25 despite receiving 160 votes — two fewer than No. 25 Pittsburgh — landing the Wildcats at a de facto No. 26 ranking. No other conference school received votes.

The top of the poll remains largely unchanged. Texas held onto the top spot with 61 first-place votes, followed by Georgia, Notre Dame, Miami and Ohio State. Alabama moved up one spot ahead of next week’s home matchup with Georgia.

Florida returns home next week against South Carolina with a chance to steady itself after the program’s first loss under Jon Sumrall.
