As soon as we thought things couldn't get worse for Texas A&M football, expectations significantly dropped after the Aggies' blowout 27-6 loss to the Missouri Tigers on Saturday.

Junior quarterback Marcel Reed threw for 187 yards and two interceptions, completing just 49% of his passes. Texas A&M was held to under 200 yards of offense for the second time this season, a historic mark not touched in over a decade.

The offense hasn't scored a touchdown against a ranked team since the 2025 Lone Star Showdown against Texas, and Reed hasn't scored a touchdown since the third quarter of last season's Missouri game. Saying there's a problem on the offensive side of the ball is an understatement.

The defense played well in the first half, forcing Missouri quarterback Austin Simmons to throw his first interception of the year, but they were on the field way too long, allowing the Tigers to capitalize with running back Jamal Roberts, who recorded 222 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

Here is everything Mike Elko, nickel Jordan Shaw and Reed said after the Aggies' 14-point road loss to Missouri on Saturday:

Elko's immediate reaction to the blowout loss

"Another disappointing road performance. Couldn’t get the offense going. I own every part of this," Elko said.

Elko when asked about potentially starting backup quarterback Brady Hart

"I don’t know. It doesn’t feel like it’s the move that will help us," Elko said.

Elko fires back when asked what gives him confidence the Aggies can bounce back offensively

"Does this look confident to you," Elko asked.

Elko discusses which was the most disappointing aspect about today

“Everything," Elko said.

Elko on what's next for Texas A&M

"We have to go back to the drawing board and figure this out. It's not nearly good enough," Elko said. We have to exhaust everything. It's a challenge because new isn't always better. You can try new and different things, but the mental strain that creates conflicts kids. We thought we had a decent plan we could execute. Clearly, we didn't."

Elko on his defense's solid first-half performance

"We started with good energy early. We held up against a talented quarterback for a while, and then it reared its ugly head. The problem we have on defense is our inability to consistently do it," Elko said.

Elko gives his message to the fan base after the loss

"There is a difference between the fan base and social media. There's one group that I really don't care much about. Billy's cesspool can go be Billy's cesspool. Our fan base, be with us. Stay behind us. We are going to build something we told you we were going to build. We are in a really bad spot right now, but we are going to work our way out of it," Elko said.

Shaw gives his thoughts on the performance

"We can't point the finger. We have to get back to the drawing board, learn from it and go from there," Shaw said.

Shaw on the morale of the Aggies

"We all know this is going to be a long season. We know what we signed up for by being in the SEC. This type of stuff happens. We are going to learn from it and attack on Monday," Shaw said.

Reed discusses how Texas A&M can turn things around

"We have to keep going to practice and figure out what the issue is. We can't give up on the season because we have three losses," Reed said.

Reed's thoughts on the play-calling

"There are definitely plays that are called at the right time. There are plays that are executed and ones that are not executed. We have to get all that stuff cleaned up," Reed said.

Reed on why the Aggies are struggling this season

"It sucks. It takes 11 people to complete a football play. The average football play is six seconds. If we can execute what we need to do, we'd be the best team in the country, but we are not doing that right now. That's my opinion," Reed said.

Reed explains that he is comfortable in Holmon Wiggins' offense

"I am comfortable. There is nothing wrong with the offense. It's those same mistakes that are happening each and every play," Reed said.
