The Colorado football team lost a heartbreaking game on Saturday to Texas Tech. The Buffaloes blew a halftime lead to bow to the Red Raiders, 29-7. One specific sequence is summing up how bad the game turned out for Colorado.

“Colorado took a timeout because there were only 8 players out for FG block,” DNVR Buffs posted to X, formerly Twitter. “They then came out after the timeout with only 9 players.”

Colorado football coach Deion Sanders is under fire after his Buffaloes have struggled under his tenure. He had two losing seasons in his first three years in Boulder. This season, the squad is also struggling with a 2-3 overall record.

Colorado was shut out by Texas Tech in the second half of Saturday’s game. The television broadcast made note of how quiet Colorado fans looked in the stands.

“The fans will tell you when it’s not good,” Sanders said postgame, per The Athletic. “They’ll leave.”

The Buffaloes are struggling on offense this season. Colorado has used multiple starting quarterbacks, as the team has simply failed to score a lot of points against power 4 competition. In two Big 12 games, the team has scored just 20 total points.

“It’s always an open competition,” Sanders said about his quarterback battle. “That’s the position that’s somewhat disabling us and disarming us.”

Many college football analysts feel Sanders is on the hot seat this season at Colorado. His 2025 Buffaloes team struggled in the Big 12, winning just one conference game. Sanders has now lost 10 of his last 11 conference contests.

The Buffaloes are also flailing against Top 25 competition.

“The matchup against Texas Tech was Colorado’s 14th game against an AP Top 25 program since Sanders took over in 2023. The Buffaloes are 2-12 in those games,” The Athletic reported.

Colorado football is currently tied for last place in the Big 12, with a 0-2 conference record. The Buffaloes are next in action against Utah on October 17.
