Week 8 of the 2026 college football season is in the books, and it was another weekend full of unpredictable upsets, especially at the top of the poll. We witnessed five teams ranked inside of the top 16 fall to unranked opponents, including No. 2 BYU, which was riding high after a big win over Notre Dame a week ago.

On Sunday morning, the latest Coaches Poll was released to give us a snapshot of how every team stacks up against each other as we prepare to kick off Week 9 of the season.

The top two spots remain unchanged, with Miami and Ohio State sitting at No. 1 and No. 2, while the Georgia Bulldogs, Indiana Hoosiers, and Utah Utes, who jumped four spots, round out the top five.

About the Coaches Poll

“The US LBM Coaches Poll is conducted weekly throughout the regular season using a panel of head coaches at Football Bowl Subdivision schools,” USA TODAY writes. “The panel is chosen by random draw, conference by conference plus independents, from a pool of coaches who have indicated to the American Football Coaches Association their willingness to participate. Each coach submits a Top 25 with a first-place vote worth 25 points, second place 24, and so on down to one point for 25th.”
