We are five weeks through the college football season, and the folks at College Football Sunday Summary feel like it all just started. We know this…we have seen and heard things over the weekend that seem to require some product testing.
College Football Sunday Summary
Headache Guy

The jokes were too good to ignore this week. North Carolina, which has suffered through a painful first year-and-a-half of the Bill Belichick era, had a new corporate sponsor. Kenvue, formerly part of Johnson & Johnson, has formed a partnership with Tar Heel Sports Properties, Learfield’s Chapel Hill team. As a result, the Motrin logo is now on the field at Kenan Stadium on the UNC campus. The jokes pretty much write themselves at that point.
Belichick usually looks like he could use some Motrin, or happy pills, or any long list of things that could turn the scowl upside down. But we have not been able to confirm that free product samples come with the sponsorship deal. As an aside, but not really, UNC lost to Notre Dame on the newly “Motrin-ized” field, 37-26 to drop to 2-2 on the season, heading into Pitt this week.

Do They Turn Your Teeth Different Colors?
There was a big revelation in the post-game press conference at Wake Forest on Saturday. The Demon Deacons had just beaten Stanford 57-3, giving Wake its biggest margin of victory in an ACC game in history.
But the real news came when starting quarterback Gio Lopez (formerly of Belichick’s UNC Tar Heels) was no longer using the over-the-counter energy supplements he used to use before games, going all the way back to high school.
So what does Lopez use now? Skittles. The ones in the purple bag, which our extensive research tells us are the wild berry flavor. He commented that he has a bag or two on the sidelines during games. And that they are the big bags because he is open to sharing if someone needs the sugar rush. Maybe his old coach Belichick could use some.
The arrangement has the express approval of the Wake nutrition staff, as he only does it on game day and not during the practice week. It certainly seems to us like some product placement is in order here.
Wanna Get Away?
Remember the old airline commercials where the tag line was “Wanna Get Away?” Well, it came to real life on Saturday night. Jim Mora’s Colorado State Rams were early in the home game against Oregon State in a good-old-fashioned Pac-12 “showdown.”
Mora was engaged in a sideline argument with co-defensive coordinator Tyson Summers. Mora has a DC in the booth and one on the sidelines coordinating the defense. But he got into a heated argument with Summers. The assistant was also the interim head coach last season when Colorado State fired Jay Norvell during the season. Summers has also been an assistant on the staffs at Florida, Georgia, and Colorado over his 20 years of coaching.
Mora and Summers got into a heated argument on the sideline, where Mora reports he took away Summers’ playcalling capacity. Summers wound up leaving the sideline. And then apparently kept going, leaving the stadium altogether. Mora reported after the game that while the sideline issue was a strategy issue, Summers’ leaving altogether means he is now fired. Oh and Colorado State lost the game 56-26. Maybe someone needed some Motrin…or Skittles.
This isn’t the first time Mora has had these sideline dramatics. In 2014, then-UCLA head coach Jim Mora got into a heated exchange with defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich that resulted in Mora taking Ulbrich’s face into his hands.

Save Some for Everyone
Minnesota Golden Gophers head coach PJ Fleck was drinking heavily from the jug of victory on Saturday.
His Gophers had just beaten Michigan to win the Little Brown Jug trophy at home for the first time since 1977. After the game, in his on-field interview, Fleck said, “I couldn’t be prouder. Besides my marriage and my kids being born, this might be the best day of my life.”
While his team waited for him in the locker room, Fleck doused his head in the liquid from the jug, which we believe to be water, and then ran to celebrate with his team.
Real Life Takes Over
In most years, Yale beating Merrimack might not even make headlines in the Yale Daily News, which is famously the nation’s oldest school newspaper.
But Saturday was different. Yale quarterback Dante Reno led the second-half comeback for the 41-24 win. He had transferred to Yale from the University of South Carolina in the summer of 2025, so he could play for his dad, Yale head coach Tony Reno. The elder Reno had won five Ivy League championships during his time from 2012 to the present day.
But Tony Reno left the program in February after being diagnosed with a rare neurodegenerative disease. Tony Reno died Friday at the age of 52. Dante went out on Saturday, with the team devoting the game to his dad, and threw four touchdown passes in the game.

The Sartorial Section
As you know, we always try to close the weekly column with something cool that schools are doing with their uniforms.
Saturday night, Boise State beat Utah State 37-18. The Broncos did so wearing throwback helmets and uniforms from their 2007 Fiesta Bowl title when they shocked Oklahoma 43-42. The Broncos, and then-head coach Chris Petersen, stunned the college football world when they used a Statue of Liberty play on a two-point conversion in the second overtime for the win.
The bowl win even got the little-known Boise State quarterback, Jared Zabransky, on the 2008 cover for the EA Sports college football video game.
