The SEC has about the best and largest middle tier of a conference in college football. The teams ranked 3rd through 10th are capable of beating each other on any given Saturday. And, for the record, Florida and Oklahoma would be 11th and 12th.

The Gators are reeling as they look for answers against teams who load the box against them. Oklahoma may have beaten Texas, but they did so thanks to a Special-Teams TD and a timely pick-six, which doesn’t move the needle for their standing.

10. South Carolina

Is LaNorris Sellers back? In the 38-19 victory over Florida, Sellers threw for 279 yards and accounted for 5 total TDs. If Sellers is going to play like this every week, the Gamecocks can compete with anyone in this league on any given Saturday.

9. Tennessee

Whether it was an actual benching or due to injury (which was the given reason), the Volunteers ran out George MacIntyre over Faizon Brandon at QB against Arkansas. The offense didn’t look great. The offense only scored 24 points. Against Arkansas. That’s a little bit of a red flag. But the defense continues to play great.

8. Mississippi State

The Bye could not have come at a better time than Week 6 for Mississippi State, as both Kamario Taylor and Fluff Bothwell left the Alabama game early. The Bulldogs’ win over Missouri continues to age well.

7. LSU

What is it with Lane Kiffin and road games? And what is it with Lane Kiffin and Kentucky? For whatever reason, Kiffin’s teams always struggle on the road and against Kentucky. So, naturally, they lost on the road to Kentucky in Week 6. This roster is immensely talented, but a gauntlet of a schedule awaits.

6. Kentucky

In the offseason, there’s a ton of columns that rank the best transfer portal adds and the best new coach hires. None of those articles this offseason mentioned QB Kenny Minchey or coach Will Stein, both of whom ended up at Kentucky. Both of whom have resurrected this program and gotten it back to competing in the SEC.

NCAA Football: Texas at Oklahoma

5. Texas

Yes, the Longhorns fall to 5 after the loss to Oklahoma. Their defense is incredible. The roster is immensely talented. But this team does some incredibly dumb stuff. Against Oklahoma, who has one of the most impotent offenses in college football, the Longhorns gifted them a special teams TD, a pick-six, and two automatic first downs via penalty on Oklahoma’s lone TD drive. If this team is not smart enough to understand how not to lose to this Oklahoma team, that’s a serious problem. And it needs to be fixed before they can be considered top of the league again.

4. Missouri

Ever since the loss to Mississippi State, this Missouri team has taken it to another level. They didn’t even have their “A game” against Texas A&M, as Austin Simmons was just okay and Donovsn Olugbode was a complete non-factor. But they still blew out the Aggies.

3. Ole Miss

Ole Miss did not play with their food against an overmatched Vanderbilt team, jumping out to an early lead en route to a 52-17 blowout victory. Coming up in Week 7: a massive game in Oxford against Missouri.

2. Alabama

Just because the Crimson Tide lost to Georgia doesn’t make them a bad football team. The 20-17 loss was about as close as it could get. In fact, Alabama had the ball in field goal range late in the 4th quarter. But after a controversial no-call on potential pass interference and a huge sack, Bama was out of field goal range and forced to punt it back to Georgia. This team is legit, and Keelon Russell is only getting better.

1. Georgia

The Bulldogs won the type of game against Alabama that they always seemed to lose. Alabama has broken the hearts of Georgia entirely too many times, but not this time. Gunner Stockton made some massive plays down the stretch of the game, both with his arm and his legs. This team is built for a Championship.
