ESPN "College GameDay" college football analyst Rece Davis has a new No. 1 team in his college football rankings after Week 6. Davis moved the Georgia Bulldogs up from No. 6 to No. 1 in his rankings. He moved the Alabama Crimson Tide up from No. 7 to No. 6 even though the Crimson Tide loss to Georgia.
Davis no longer ranks the Texas Longhorns as the No. 1 team. The Longhorns fell to the Oklahoma Sooners, who have struggled on offense all season on a last-second field goal. Texas' loss looked pretty bad since the Longhorns allowed Oklahoma to score a pair of nonoffensive touchdowns. Following Texas's loss, Davis dropped the Longhorns to No. 10, which is harsher than most other voters in the AP Poll.
Davis outlined what Georgia's biggest challenge is now that the Bulldogs are No. 1.
"I don't see anybody on their schedule as complete as they are," Davis said on the "Pat McAfee Show" this week. "But if you don't play your A game this year in the SEC, I think the SEC is better than it was last year, so it is not as if Georgia is invincible."
Georgia has challenging games left against Florida, Missouri, South Carolina and Ole Miss. However, the Bulldogs will likely be favored in each of those contests.
"I think Georgia is the most complete and best team," Davis continued. "You know the type of effort you're going to get from a Georgia team every time they go on the field under Kirby Smart."
Outside of Georgia's move to No. 1, the rest of Davis' top five remains unchanged. He has Notre Dame at No. 2, Ohio State at No. 3, Indiana at No. 4, Miami at No. 5. The Utah Utes also enter Davis' rankings. Utah is 5-0.
