The Florida football team is trying to regroup after losing a SEC conference game recently to South Carolina. While Florida got some good news on Wednesday in regard to the health of one player, another Gator is facing a setback.

“Florida quarterback Aaron Philo’s status is in question heading into Saturday’s game against No. 7 Texas due to an injury, sources tell CBS Sports,” CBS reporter Matt Zenitz posted to X, formerly Twitter.

This season, Philo has posted 1,341 passing yards. He has nine touchdown throws to three interceptions.

Philo’s injury is a large concern, but there could be some good news on the way for the Gators. One of their top wideouts is on the way back from injury.

“Source: Florida star wide receiver Vernell Brown III practiced today and was “the best he’s looked” since injuring his knee. He has a “real shot” to play for the Gators at Texas on Saturday after missing the last two games. He has 17 catches for 271 yards and two touchdowns in four games for Florida. Florida is 4-0 when he’s played,” ESPN’s Pete Thamel posted to X.

The Gators are getting ready to play Texas on Saturday. It is a massive game for Florida, who is trying to reach the College Football Playoff under head coach Jon Sumrall.

Sumrall is in his first season at Florida. He posted a massive conference win earlier this season against Ole Miss. That victory launched Florida into the top 10 of the Associated Press college football poll.

Florida has taken a step back since that win. The Gators have posted back-to-back losses in SEC play, against Missouri and South Carolina. Florida is now 2-2 in the conference, and 4-2 overall.

The Gators are no longer ranked after losing to South Carolina. Three of Florida’s next four games are against ranked teams.

Before coming to Florida, Sumrall was the head coach at Tulane and Troy. He led Tulane to the CFP during the 2025 college football season.
