As the calendar is ready to turn to November, the race for the College Football Playoff is about to hit the home stretch.
The stakes are rising and the margin for error is disappearing for contenders across the country, with the season's first CFP ranking set to be released Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET.
The Week 9 schedule on Oct. 31 features a trio of matchups featuring teams ranked in the US LBM Coaches Poll, including No. 3 Georgia and No. 20 Florida renewing their longstanding SEC rivalry at 3:30 p.m. ET. This year's rivalry game, however, won't be taking place in Jacksonville but instead at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

No. 2 Ohio State has its first game back from its bye week and will be without starting quarterback Julian Sayin, who sustained an injury two weeks ago against Indiana and is out indefinitely. The Buckeyes look to move to 5-0 in Big Ten play with a win over No. 25 Southern California.

01:28 PM ET, October 31 2026, Kevin Skiver
The Wildcats seem to have found some momentum against Texas Tech in Lubbock. It's 17-7 Arizona as the half approaches, with Texas Tech scrambling for answers after a promising start.

Navy punches in TD against Notre Dame, takes lead
01:27 PM ET, October 31 2026, John Leuzzi
Navy takes the lead against Notre Dame in Foxborough after a 2-yard rushing touchdown by Jackson Gutierrez. It's a 13-7 Navy lead with just under two minutes to go in the first half.
The Midshipman's running game, which entered the day as the No. 3 rushing offense in the country, has been causing trouble for the Fighting Irish's defense the entire first half. Navy has put up 152 rushing yards on its three scoring drives thus far in the half.
Could the Irish be on upset watch?

Tommy Carr dot gives Michigan early lead over Rutgers
01:25 PM ET, October 31 2026, Craig Meyer
Tommy Carr's reportedly playing through the flu for Michigan today against Rutgers, but he sure didn't look like it on the opening drive.
The Wolverines go 92 yards in 10 plays, the last of which was a gorgeous six-yard pass to JJ Buchanan, who comes down with an equally impressive catch in the end zone.

Iowa stops Wisconsin on fourth-down, Badgers on upset watch?
01:17 PM ET, October 31 2026, John Leuzzi
Wisconsin's first-half struggles against Iowa continue. After Colton Joseph comes a yard short of the end zone on third down, the Badgers elect to go for it on fourth-and-goal, and the Hawkeyes' defense blows up the entire play, resulting in a turnover on downs.
The Badgers picked up just four first downs in the first half thus far, while creating 107 total yards of offense, compared to the Hawkeyes' 10 and 216, respectively.
It's early, but are the Badgers on upset watch after picking up a top-25 win last week against Southern California? It remains 10-0 Iowa in the second quarter.

Noah Fifita 94-yard TD pass puts Arizona ahead of Texas Tech
01:15 PM ET, October 31 2026, Craig Meyer
The highly anticipated matchup between No. 21 Arizona and No. 14 Texas Tech turned on a dime — or, more specifically, a throw.
With the Red Raiders holding on to a 7-3 lead in the second quarter behind a dominant defensive effort, and with the Wildcats staring at a third-and-12 from their own 6-yard line, Noah Fifita is flushed out of the pocket and connects with Isaiah Mizell along the sideline for a 94-yard touchdown to put Arizona up, 10-7.

Navy hanging with Notre Dame
01:02 PM ET, October 31 2026, Craig Meyer
Halfway through the second quarter, we've got what few expected from the matchup between No. 6 Notre Dame and Navy — a competitive game.
The Fighting Irish lead by only one, 7-6, with 7:58 remaining before halftime and are being outgained, 115-75. The Midshipmen, true to form, are getting it done on the ground, with 106 rushing yards (to Notre Dame's 15).
Thomas Castellanos leads Texas Tech to opening TD drive
12:31 PM ET, October 31 2026, John Leuzzi
Thomas Castellanos has Texas Tech off to a hot start. The FSU transfer caps Texas Tech's opening drive with a 24-yard touchdown pass to Terrance Carter Jr. down the left sideline. It was a beautifully thrown and placed ball from Castellanos, who went 3-for-6 for 48 yards on the drive. He also converted a fourth-and-2 with a 7-yard quarterback keeper carry to keep the drive alive.
It's 7-3 Texas Tech with 7:03 remaining in the first quarter in Lubbock.

Texas Tech to start Thomas Castellanos at QB vs Arizona
11:50 AM ET, October 31 2026, John Leuzzi
Texas Tech is making a quarterback change.
According to ESPN's Pete Thamel, the Red Raiders will start Florida State transfer Tommy Castellanos under center on Saturday against Arizona over Will Hammond. Both quarterbacks are expected to see snaps as well.
The move for the Red Raiders comes after their 37-24 loss on the road at Cincinnati, which head coach Joey McGuire called a "total failure" on his part.
