“No. 13 Texas Tech has been considering a change to Thomas Castellanos at QB, possibly as soon as today against No. 22 Arizona,” CBS Sports reporter Matt Zenitz posted to X. “Will Hammond has started the first seven games but Castellanos got increased work with the first-team offense this week, including during Tech’s walkthrough yesterday.”
Texas Tech and Arizona have been two of the best teams in the Big 12 conference this season. Both teams enter the game with a 6-1 record. The losing team in this clash is likely out of the conference championship race.
Texas Tech football is hoping to right the ship
Both teams also enter this game ranked. Texas Tech is coming off a bad loss at Cincinnati, which wrecked their hopes for an undefeated season. The Red Raiders are hoping to once again reach the College Football Playoff.
“I’m as frustrated as I think I’ve ever been in my 32 years of coaching of what we did today,” McGuire said after the loss to the Bearcats, per The Daily Toreador.
Against Cincinnati, Texas Tech posted three turnovers. The team also committed a whopping 13 penalties, which stalled drives on offense. Texas Tech also allowed 37 points and 427 yards of offense to Cincinnati.
Texas Tech is ready to turn the page.
“For us to control and get to where we want to get, we’re going to have to win,” McGuire said. “We’re going to have to win out, and we’re going to have to beat a really good team next week that’s coming into our place and they’re probably going to come in with only one loss.”
Texas Tech and Arizona play Saturday at 12:00 ET.
