Texas will likely be without its best defensive player for Saturday’s game against Ole Miss.

According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Texas edge rusher Colin Simmons is dealing with a high ankle sprain and isn’t expected to play against the Rebels. He is considered week-to-week with the injury.

Thamel’s report follows Anwar Richardson of OrangeBloods, who said Simmons was expected to miss the next three to four weeks.

Simmons has been fantastic, compiling 25 total tackles, 16 tackles for loss, 10.5 sacks and two forced fumbles. His tackles for loss and sack totals lead all of FBS. This is his third season with the Longhorns, and he has compiled 116 total tackles, 31.5 sacks, eight forced fumbles, four passes defended and one interception.

The Longhorns have lost two in a row since their 4-0 start, and another tough game looms Saturday when they play the Ole Miss Rebels. The Rebels are ranked No. 7 in the AP poll, while the Longhorns have dropped to No. 19.

Kickoff for this week’s matchup will be at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
