Coach Dabo Swinney’s Clemson Tigers stumbled in the first half and ultimately missed out on a golden opportunity to gain ground in the ACC Championship race against the Virginia Tech Hokies, losing 20-16 at home after giving up 10 unanswered points in the fourth quarter. The loss came on the heels of a huge recruiting win for Swinney but led to a rough day on the field as Clemson fell to 4-3 on the season.
Afterward, fans began calling for Swinney’s job as the two-time national title winner and nine-time ACC title winner began to lose goodwill with the Tigers’ fanbase.
“If you lose this at home, it might be over,” one fan said of Swinney, posting his recent ACC Conference losing marks.

“Beating Clemson used to meaning something,” another fan added.
“Costly penalties within the last two minutes,” another wrote of Swinney’s team.
“You need to call for the resignation of Dabo Swinney…Use your platform for the good of the university,” another said to Eric McClain of ACC Network after the heart-wrenching Tigers loss.
“It’s been real Lincoln Riley and Dabo Swinney,” another said as USC began losing to Wisconsin in Madison.
Clemson QB Tait Reynolds passed for 153 yards but was outdone by Ethan Grunkmeyer of the Hokies, who had similar passing yardage but two TD tosses on the night. The Tigers’ offense had a hard time staying on the field as they converted on three of 14 third-down tries.
The Tigers will head to Florida State for a Halloween game that looks devoid of championship implications at this point in time. Swinney set the expectations for championships in Clemson, and may soon become a victim of his own standards as fans continue to grow restless.
