One of the biggest names in college football is reportedly stepping out of the limelight.
According to a report from ESPN's Pete Thamel, Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark will be stepping away from the conference following the end of the 2026 football season.
According to Thamel, Yormark made the decision to leave and is expected to accept a new role outside of college sports in the near future. He’ll be with the league at least through January of 2027. Big 12 commissioners met recently and finalized the deal, which Yormark reportedly approached them about earlier this month.
While Yormark will no longer head up the Big 12 Conference, he is expected to announce his next venture in sports in the near future.
Yormark has been the Big 12 commissioner since August of 2022, helping to lead the conference through the latest rounds of conference realignment, working to maintain stability as the SEC and Big Ten consolidated power by adding massive brands like the Texas Longhorns, Oklahoma Sooners, Oregon Ducks, and USC Trojans.
Meanwhile, the Big 12 has been able to accumulate well-known teams as well, adding the likes of the BYU Cougars, Utah Utes, Colorado Buffaloes, and Houston Cougars, among others.
