2027 4-star OT remains '100% committed' to Texas A&M after SMU visit

Texas A&M's No. 1-ranked 2027 recruiting class lost its first player this week when four-star linebacker Aston Whiteside flipped his commitment to Miami, a program that has pursued the rising defender since he was a relatively unknown three-star prospect. This loss was expected, while the rest of the Aggies' 25 commitments aren't going anywhere for now.

However, after it was confirmed that four-star offensive tackle and A&M commit DeMarrion Johnson visited SMU last weekend when the Aggies hosted The Citadel, rumors swirled this week about a potential visit to Texas when the Longhorns host Ole Miss, but Johnson didn't confirm anything until his recent interview with AggieYell (subscription required) insider Joseph Hastings.

This rumored connection with the Longhorns began in April, when Johnson visited Texas after shutting down his recruitment, but he didn't return this summer and, according to his interview with Joseph Hastings, doesn't plan to visit Austin anytime soon.

Johnson said he remains "100% committed" to Texas A&M and plans to visit the Aggies at their November 17 home game against Tennessee, and hopes to return to campus for the November 27 home rivalry game vs. Texas.

“I plan on being at the A&M versus Tennessee game coming up on the 14th,” Johnson replied. “Then after that, I’m pretty sure it’s A&M and Texas (on Nov. 27). That’s the other game I’ve got going. Other than that, I have nothing else.”

Johnson also shared background on his decision to visit SMU, as the Dallas, Texas, native wanted to see the campus and learn more about the growing ACC program that has done an excellent job recruiting in-state.
