An SEC team should move into the top spot of the US LBM Coaches Poll Sunday afternoon after No. 1 Ohio State tumbled Saturday night.

The question is whether it will be No. 2 Georgia or No. 3 Texas.

Georgia smashed Western Kentucky 70-20 Saturday in a game the Hilltoppers scored two late touchdowns against reserves. The Bulldogs trucked Tennessee State 63-3 in week one.

Texas has a case to jump Georgia after overcoming a 20-point fourth quarter deficit to take down the No. 1 Buckeyes 24-23.

Georgia is 3-0 against Texas the past two seasons, but the teams aren’t scheduled to play this season. They could, of course, meet in the SEC championship game or the College Football Playoff.

The Bulldogs, the two-time defending SEC champions, were the preseason pick to win the SEC with Texas tabbed as the runner-up.

Georgia was also No. 2 in the latest Associated Press poll and Texas is No. 4.

Notre Dame was No. 4 in the coaches poll and No. 3 in the AP poll.

The Irish beat Rice 52-0 a week after a 41-13 win over Wisconsin.

USA Today’s Paul Myerberg projects Texas will move into the top spot of this week’s coaches poll.

“Texas might even be a unanimous No. 1 and pull away from the Georgia, Notre Dame and Indiana," he write. "More likely, however, Texas leaps ahead of Georgia and claims most but not all the first-place votes.”

Chip Patterson of CBS Sports also projected Texas to be No. 1 in the AP Poll with Georgia remaining at No. 2.

Texas coach Steven Sarkisian took a shot at teams who schedule lightweights rather than marquee nonconference games.

“We could be like other teams and play Jones Junior High and win 66-0,” Sarkisian said, according to On3. “I don’t know what that does for us. Tonight we found out that we can (win big games).”

Texas is projected to be No. 1 in the AP poll by Yahoo Sports, Athlon Sports and On3.
