Logan Lokey, a Class of 2028 defensive lineman from Denton Guyer High School in Texas, committed to the Oklahoma Sooners on Monday, Hayes Fawcett of Rivals reported. His decision came at the end of a weekend in Norman that included a 42-25 home loss to the South Carolina Gamecocks.

The 6-foot-3, 245-pound prospect, a four-star recruit in the Rivals and On3 grades, picked the Sooners over the Texas A&M Aggies, SMU Mustangs and Texas Tech Red Raiders. “All glory to the man above for helping me find home! Jesus loves you!” Lokey told Fawcett.

Saturday was Lokey’s second game-day trip to Oklahoma this fall and the third time he has watched Brent Venables’ defense, Sam Spiegelman of Rivals reported. The defense he saw gave up 521 yards to South Carolina, one week after holding the Mississippi State Bulldogs to 15 points. Lokey stayed through Sunday with Venables and the staff, then gave Oklahoma his pledge.

What sold Logan Lokey on Oklahoma after that loss?

“What sealed the deal for me was fit and God giving me a sense of belonging with the coaching staff and players … that’s when I knew the time was right. As a defensive end, playing under such a great and touted coach like Coach Chavis is such an amazing opportunity, along with playing under an amazing defensive-minded head coach … It all felt like the perfect fit for me.” Lokey told Rivals.

Coach Chavis is Miguel Chavis, Oklahoma’s defensive ends coach since December 2021. Every reason Lokey gave points to the people in the building, and those people held on to him through a 17-point home loss.

Lokey’s father, Derek Lokey, played defensive line for the Texas Longhorns from 2004 to 2007 and later spent time with the Kansas City Chiefs.

“Another defensive lineman that I like where they’re sitting on is Logan Lokey. He’s actually a Texas legacy … his dad was on the national championship team in 2005. But (Texas) A&M and SMU are probably Oklahoma’s biggest threat. I like where the Sooners are with Logan Lokey and recently added a prediction for that to eventually take place.” Spiegelman said in August, in remarks relayed by Jaron Spor of Sooners Wire.

Spor wrote at the time that the Longhorns had yet to get involved.

Lokey has 12.5 sacks, 22 tackles for loss and 51 tackles through nine games this season after posting 1.5 sacks as a sophomore, Field reported on Monday. The Rivals Industry Ranking lists him at No. 227 in the class, while 247Sports grades him as a three-star.

He is the fifth pledge in a 2028 Oklahoma class that ranked fifth in the 247Sports team standings before his announcement. Texas A&M, one of the programs he passed over, visits Norman on Nov. 21.
