With the North Carolina football team in Ireland to take on TCU to open the season on Saturday, it starts what could be a pivotal season for head coach Bill Belichick and his job security. As many speculate that Belichick on the hot seat with the North Carolina football team, this college football insider explains why he also feels the same.

In Bruce Feldman’s latest piece for The Athletic, he goes over how hot the seat is for various coaches around the country, saying that Belichick’s level is “muy caliente.” Feldman went into Belichick’s “horrible first season” with the Tar Heels after being hired by the school at $10 million a year, finishing 4-8 last year.

Considering the program a “laughingstock” of college football, Feldman would go over the “dysfunction” going on, like with general manager Michael Lombardi being investigated over a human resources complaint. Feldman described his roster management with the school as being “botched.”

“The GM boasted about how UNC was now the NFL’s 33rd team, yet the Tar Heels were unable to produce even one NFL Draft pick last year for the first time in a decade,” Feldman wrote. “Belichick fired his offensive coordinator and special teams coordinator after his first season but kept Lombardi, who is currently on paid leave while he is being investigated by the university regarding an HR complaint. Belichick’s son, Steve, the defensive coordinator, is on leave for medical reasons.”

Feldman would continue talking about Belichick’s time with the North Carolina football program, saying that when he asked a source about his coaching future, the response wasn’t one certain he’d be there next season.

“I’d be shocked if he’s coaching there next year. It’s a mess there…” the source said, via Feldman.

Feldman would say that a 2-2 start to the season “should spark some optimism,” which hasn’t been felt within the school. It remains to be seen what happens when it comes to Belichick and the future of the North Carolina football program, as the season starts Saturday against TCU in Ireland.
