LSU football‘s senior linebacker Whit Weeks fractured his right leg in Saturday’s 35-6 win over Texas A&M, and the team captain now faces a second straight season interrupted by a leg injury with no timetable for his return.
The injury happened early in the third quarter with the Tigers leading 28-6. Weeks went to the locker room on crutches with a boot on his right foot, and LSU head coach Lane Kiffin said afterward that it “didn’t look good when he walked off.”
A report from Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports says LSU is optimistic the injury isn’t season-ending.

Weeks is the third key LSU player to go down with an injury in two weeks. Kiffin talked about the growing list after the game.
“I’ve not been around this many significant injuries early in the year like this. It’s really unfortunate,” Kiffin said, per Sports Illustrated. “The good thing was guys stepped up and played in place of really significant players, with Spears and Trey’Dez being out, and now with Whit.”
Junior safety Dashawn Spears suffered a season-ending knee injury in the 32-24 loss at Ole Miss. Senior tight end Trey’Dez Green also hurt his knee in that game, but he’s expected back after missing time. Quarterback Sam Leavitt played through a hamstring injury against the Aggies.
Weeks made four tackles and a quarterback hurry before he left Saturday’s game. He has 24 tackles through four games this season.
Ty Benefield, who started at the star position in place of Spears, spoke about what the No. 7 jersey wearer means to the locker room. “Whit means everything,” Benefield said.

Whit Weeks’ injury history at LSU

This is the third time in three seasons that an injury has knocked the Watkinsville, Georgia, native out of action.
As a sophomore in 2024, Weeks posted 125 tackles and ranked second in the SEC in that category. He also made first-team All-SEC. But he dislocated his ankle and fractured his tibia in LSU’s 44-31 Texas Bowl win over Baylor, and he had surgery days later.
As a junior in 2025, Weeks missed the final five games with an ankle injury that needed surgery after the season. He finished that year with 31 tackles and a sack.
Now the senior linebacker is dealing with a fracture in the same right leg. LSU hasn’t announced how long he’ll be out.
What’s next for LSU’s defense?
The Tigers (3-1) host McNeese State at Tiger Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 3, at 7:45 p.m. ET on SEC Network. Next, LSU hosts Kentucky on Oct. 10, and Mississippi State visits on Oct. 17.
Kiffin confirmed Spears’ injury at his weekly Monday press conference last week, but he didn’t comment on Green’s injury at that session. So any official word on Weeks depends on how much Kiffin chooses to share this week.
