Where was Notre Dame placed in USA TODAY Sports’ Re-Rank?

USA TODAY Sports had Texas, Notre Dame and Georgia as the top-three teams in that order for last week’s college football re-rank.

This week, those teams are still in the top three but in a different order. The Fighting Irish are No. 3 after two straight weeks in the second spot, while Georgia leads and Texas is right behind them in the updated USAT re-rank.

USA TODAY’s Paul Myerberg didn’t explain why Notre Dame is now in the third spot, but noted that the Bulldogs and Longhorns are 1-and-2, respectively, for a reason.

“Texas has played a significantly tougher schedule, beating Ohio State and Tennessee, the second on the road,” Myerberg said. “In comparison, Georgia has Power Four wins against Arkansas and Oklahoma. But the Bulldogs have looked like the best team in the country on both sides of the ball.”

Notre (4-0), ranked No. 3 in the latest US LBM Coaches and Associated Press polls, are coming off a 49-10 road win over Purdue. The Boilermakers (1-3) are No. 94 in the re-rank.

The Irish will face North Carolina (2-1) on Saturday. The Tar Heels are No. 53 in the re-rank, moving up three spots from last week.
